What is AdBlue?
Ad-Blue is a non-toxic and non-flammable 32.5% aqueous urea solution. This product is also known as AUS 32, which stands for Aqueous Urea Solution. Specially designed for diesel engines with selective catalytic reduction (SCR system) installed in their exhaust systems.
How does it work?
Ad-Blue is injected into the exhaust gases inside the catalytic converter to reduce harmful emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOX). This ensures that it is related to Euro 4, Euro 5 and Euro 6 emission norms. Injecting Ad-Blue into the exhaust gases creates a solution of ammonia (NH3) and urea contained in carbon dioxide (CO2). All this happens at high temperature. Then ammonia (NH3) reacts with nitrogen oxides (NOX) formed in diesel combustion. As a result of the chemical reaction, nitrogen (N2) and water vapor (H2O) come out harmlessly from the exhaust. This process is called selective catalytic reduction (SCR).
Additional features
It has a pouring point of -11.5°C and can be used by continuously remelting it without limits. Ad-Blue density at 20°C is 1087 - 1093 kg/m3. Colored metals should not come into contact with various plastics, as they have strong abrasive properties.
The dosage of Ad-Blue additive, which has a separate tank, is applied completely automatically according to the control unit. In the case of Euro 4 standards, the amount of Ad-Blue additive is approximately 3-4% of the fuel consumed, while the emission for Euro 5 is between 5 and 7%. In certain cases, Ad-Blue reduces diesel consumption by up to 7% and partially compensates for the high installation costs of vehicles in accordance with EURO 4 and Euro 5 standards.
For comparison, 35 new vehicles using Ad-Blue have the same amount of solids removed from an older 10-year-old vehicle without SCR system. 7 vehicles using Ad-Blue emit the same amount of nitrogen oxides as today's modern beer.
